Batman on politics

Just a question. Batman: Democrat or Republican, and why? Your thoughts, please.

Just the same as with just about everything else, I could tackle this one from any angle. This is, of course, assuming that we mean Batman and Bruce Wayne as a joint entity.

Argument for Republican:

He's a big business owner. He has the money and loves to flaunt it. He uses every resource he has in order to have the best of everything, including the latest technology to help him in crime fighting. His ideas of justice are very hard, cold, and true. If one has committed a crime, then one must pay the price. No exceptions, no forgiveness. He will not pardon the unjust until there has been some recompense. He is influential with the local government. They depend upon him so much to clean up the streets that he has a god-like power over the city.

Argument for Democrat:

That brings me to the most important part here. He has a god-like power. The people look to him as a savior of the streets, cleaning up Gotham one lowlife piece of really bizarre trash at a time. He is a champion of The People, an icon they all look to. Were his true identity known, he would probably be exposed to some ridicule. But I digress. Whatever his motive for fighting crime, the people see it as having their best interest at heart, which we all know is the true mark of any Democrat.

I feel like the argument for Republican is stronger at this point. Anyone else have any questions, comments, or adverse opinions?

Batman doesn't have a political affiliation, unless punching people in the face is a political affiliation.

I'd like to think that punching people in the face does, in fact, have a political affiliation. You could take it quite literally as fascism, or figuratively as Reaganism.

And yeah. We talked about this. He's not an anti-crat. He has some sort of political affiliation. He has a motive, and there is always some sort of political affiliation and philosophical assertion behind every motive.

That's right. But still, people, the question is, where does he stand politically?

Okay, looking at this from a serious perspective:
Batman, not Bruce Wayne, would rather deal with a small police task unit. Batman has only a few people he can trust, so he wants to keep them on his side. He doesn't want the police force overrun with government auditors and the like. He doesn't want WayneCorp being investigated for the expenditures they make on bat-gear. For those reasons, I'd say Batman is a democrat. He doesn't want big government taking over every aspect of his life and discovering who he is, and certain things passed under Republican-controlled government like the Patriot Act are gonna put Batman in a position he doesn't want to be in. Unfortunately, Batman isn't a registered voter, so his vote don't count for shit anyway.

But if he were a registered voter, you believe he would vote Democrat? Interesting. That goes nicely with "his one rule."

I think therish and I are both correct.
Batman would be a democrat, but Bruce Wayne would be a republican.

Wait you've got a problem. It's not the republicans that make big government, tradtionally it's the democrats that cause that the government to expand and create more bureaucracy. So he would be a republican if he wanted a smaller government with less restrictions on his business.

Epic crusade for NesQuik aside, I think an interesting point of opposition has been presented and we should consider it.

Traditionally, Republicans are in favor of supporting big business, by giving them tax breaks, a certain amount of amnesty from IRS audits, fewer investigations, etc. They give them this leeway because the big businesses traditionally offer generous "donations" to high political officials. Within a Republican government, big business funds politics, and politics protect big business.

Taking this into consideration, we must consider Batman/Bruce Wayne's roll within Gotham. Is there any specific exchange of money to support the local government? Is Wayne Enterprises protected by the government in any way, shape, or form? We must consider these things.
